Powdered sugar everywhere!
We had a great dinner at my dad's. We had breakfast for dinner and boy, was it good! Swedish pancakes, eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, gravy, and biscuits. YUMMMMMMMY!!! Wish I had more right now!
We did help decorate their tree, which took a tumble. We'd just finished and I'm not sure what happened, but I heard the fall. We got it back up though and re-decorated it.
I was glad to get home though. After being on my feet all day cooking, I was super tired. Jake went back to sleep for me, (He'd fallen asleep in the car.) and I had a little time to myself.
Very excited about this week. Seeing the anticipation of Christmas Eve and Santa coming in Jake's eyes is the best!
Happy Holidays!!!
FINALLY...
I want to share what a great time we had at my grandmother's Christmas dinner. We even had a surprise guest!
When Jake and I arrived, only my dad and his wife were there along with my great aunt and uncle. We didn't have long, though, before the house started filling up. If my count is right, my grandmother fed 36 of us, cooking every single dish by herself with the exception of a couple of desserts. The food was so wonderful and consisted of sweet potato souffle, turkey, dressing, rice and gravy, creamed corn, macaroni and cheese, peas, ham, green beans, potato salad, fruit salad, cranberry sauce, and I know I'm forgetting something! The desserts were heavenly. My grandmother made Japanese fruit cake, chocolate cake, pecan pies, coconut cake, and her quick-to-disappear Christmas custard, which is like an egg nog. My stepmom made a pound cake and everyone's favorite, German chocolate cake.
My great aunt has a birthday on December 17th so we all sang Happy Birthday in her honor, and one way or another we all squeeze into my grandmother's living room so we can hold hands during grace.
I think everyone ate their fill and I know several people (Vince, Hope, and Anne I won't mention your names.) who cleaned out most of the custard! The punch bowl was completely empty at the end of the day. I regret not getting a photo.
After everyone had their bellies full, my cousin, Leigh, called all the little kids to the living room to stand by the tree for a special surprise! Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door and guess who walked in??? Santa Claus!!!!
This is Taylor. She cried at first, but calmed down enough to talk a bit and pose for the camera.
Uh...Carson says, "Get me outta here, Mommie!!"
We managed to get my grandmother in to pose with Santa. The funniest thing was she kept asking me who played Santa, and when I told her who it was she didn't believe me!
Mel, not too shy at all to sit on Santa's Lap.
Leigh figured since her brother was playing Santa, she'd let him know that she wanted him to finish up some remodeling in her house for Christmas. Not sure he really paid attention to her.
My great aunt...she got a little bag of coal...
And, would you say a prayer for Layne? January 5, 2009 he leaves for Parris Island...he's joined the Marines. We're very proud of him, but worried at the same time, of course.
Merry Christmas everyone!!
I'm really proud of the cards this year. It's always a challenge to find different ideas each year especially after, gosh, maybe 10 or 12 years.
And since I'm ahead of the game with getting the cards done, I actually did a little scrapbooking this weekend. I needed some "scrapping for me" time and I took it. I'd spent two and a half days reorganizing my office/scraproom and rather than move on to my next cleaning project in getting ready for Christmas, I decided to sit and scrap a bit. Of course, Jake was the subject as usual:
Every year on his birthday I photograph him at the time he was born whether he's sleeping or still up playing with birthday presents. So far, I haven't roused him while taking those sleeping pics!
This photo was so sweet to me, pardon the pun...just look at that face!
And this...well...that face just gets me every time. What kid doesn't love playing in the leaves that so desperately need to be raked? Except for the alphabet tape, the buttons, and the transparency blackground, everything on this layout is from Tallyscrapper's Autumnal Inspiration kit. Can I just say that I absolutely LOVE this kit. If you've never purchased a Tallyscrapper kit, then you are definitely missing out!
What else? I still haven't posted pictures from the Tally Rally. What a loser! I am still working on an album about the weekend so maybe I'll just post the album. I love how it's coming along.
If you're in need of scrapbooking supplies, I've got a huge assortment for sale on e-bay. After two and a half days of cleaning and sorting, the winner of this lot will get lots of great papers and embellishments! It really is a good deal...I'd imagine well over $300 retail value.
Thanksgiving! Well, let's just say it was nice not to have to cook this year. My mom cooked a great dinner, and even though I didn't get to see my nephew, it was nice to see my sister.
Okay, so back to work and cleaning and making Christmas shopping lists!!
